Dick Cheney as the Cheshire Cat

The characters of The Mad Hatter's Tea Party.  This has been an involved and satisfying project.  Completed in 2004 for the 4th of July Parade in Jamestown Colorado, we've been having a great time parading "the heads" around.  They were conceived as a result of Emma's frustration with the current Presidency and the urgent need to remove the Bush Administration from office.

Donald Rumsfeld as the Queen of Hearts

Each head required 40-60 hours to complete.  They are made of paper tape shaped and sculpted onto a frame of wire and pipe.  Each character was sculpted from pictures cut from magazines and off the internet (unfortunately I couldn't get any of the players to sit.)

George Dubya as The Mad Hatter

All of the heads have been painted and finished with a durable hard coat.  The costumes were then constructed all by hand.  I was helped by a lot of friends in this process with the sewing and assembly.    The teacups are constructed of paper tape also and were designed and built primarily by fellow artist Alan.   Everything has been designed for weight, maneuverability and ease of assembly.

John Ashcroft as The Duchess

The final assembly requires old Kelty backpacks.  Everything is fitted to the packs with pvc pipe and other various parts.  Friends are all fitted and the parade begins.

A clever song was written by Bob (Rummy) and Chris (Ashcroft) which the group sings whenever the mood strikes.  The first verse goes:

We’re from the office of Homeland Security
We have to peek, to keep you free,
We can’t protect what we can’t see
We’re from the office of Homeland Security
We’ve got to keep our country strong
Why can’t you just go along?

And much, much more
